A tiny orange nobody
About nine months ago, a roughly three-week-old orange kitten was found hiding under a storage container at a school — no mom, no siblings, just him. He came home to be bottle-fed kitten formula and given a fighting chance.
The story of one very orange survivor
It's a little gross, a little goofy, and a lot heartfelt. Here's how a three-week-old kitten became the internet's favorite Shart.
How he got the name (sorry)
The formula did NOT agree with him. For about a week he "sharted" all over himself twice a day — with an audible sound every single time. As a joke, Mom texted her parents: "I’m going to call him Shart from now on." The joke never ended. To this day he actually responds to "SHART!" yelled across the house.
Officially "Cheeto"
His vet paperwork says Cheeto, because Mom could not bring herself to tell the receptionist "I’m here for Shart’s appointment." But let’s be honest — this cat is not a Cheeto. He’s Shart.
The internet fell in love
His original story blew up on r/OneOrangeBraincell — nearly two million views — and a whole community of orange-cat people fell head over heels for the little guy.
The scare
At about five months old, on Easter morning, Shart slipped outside into a neighbor’s yard and was attacked by two dogs. Dad had to pry him out of a German Shepherd’s mouth. His injuries were life-threatening, and the vet warned that his lungs might be too damaged to heal — to prepare for maybe a few hours left.
The turn
After a long day at the emergency vet, the news changed: his lungs were okay. The damage — a strained back leg, a broken jaw and nose, and a puncture through the roof of his mouth into his nasal cavity — was fixable with emergency surgery.
Saved by strangers
Mom made a post and started a GoFundMe expecting maybe a couple hundred dollars. Instead, hundreds of strangers donated, shared, and left kind messages. Because of that community, Shart got the treatment he needed — and made a full recovery.
Shart today
He’s thriving. He runs, he bleps, he chases toys, and he now has his very own corner of the internet at r/ShartTheOrangeCat, where Mom posts hundreds of photos a week. Not bad for a kitten who wasn’t supposed to make it.
